Research Learning Renewed: ten lessons from the pandemic The Covid-19 crisis has tested education systems in unprecedented ways. In this report, we summarise ten key lessons from the pandemic, which should be used to inform planning for the long-term reconstruction and recovery of education systems. These lessons are drawn from a thorough global review of evidence and policy throughout school closures and plans for reopening around the world, with a particular emphasis on examples of good practice. Commentary Adaptive management for learning continuity: lessons from our work in Kenya In the face of ongoing disruption from the Covid-19 pandemic, many education programmes and systems must continue to adapt in order to ensure education continuity for all learners – especially the most vulnerable. In our Wasichana Wetu Wafulu (WWW) programme in Kenya, we have pivoted the roles of community health volunteers to support learning continuity for the vulnerable girls we work with. Here, we share our thinking on the key factors that enabled the success of this initiative, and the lessons which may be applicable to other programmes seeking to adapt in the face of crises. News CLC launches new IBM-supported blended learning programme 18 January 2021 We are delighted to announce the launch of BlendEd, a programme of free professional development and resources to support teachers delivering a blend of distance learning and face-to-face teaching, managed by Education Development Trust’s Connected Learning Centre (CLC). News Early Years Professional Development Programme: positive impact already seen 07 January 2021 Fifteen months from its launch, the Early Years Professional Development Programme has already helped over 380 Early Years practitioners to successfully develop their practice and help young children to learn key language and communication skills. Despite the disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic, all of the practitioners in the programme to date have gained new qualifications and 98% have reported positive changes in the children in their care. Commentary Helping young people to navigate the COVID-19 job market There is no doubt that the challenge the Government faces in rebuilding the UK’s economy is vast.
