Learning Renewed: our Covid-19 response

Teacher training for rebuilding learning

Teachers are critical for rapidly rebuilding learning, whether schools remain closed or are starting to reopen. More effective approaches to remote or blended learning continuity, enhanced pedagogy for accelerated catch-up and formative assessment, and support for collaborative work across home and community settings are all needed. We can provide expertise in teacher CPD to support enhanced training offers for teachers.

Education Development Trust has significant expertise in remote and blended continuous professional development (CPD) support for teachers, including a specialist centre for the use of technology in teaching and learning, the London Connected Learning Centre (CLC). Throughout the Covid-19 crisis, the London CLC has been widely sharing its expertise in remote learning to ensure that teachers are better equipped for remote lessons and pedagogies. As a wider organisation, we also have substantial experience of using blended learning in our large-scale programmes, and of accelerated learning and catch-up approaches.

We have significant capacity and expertise in remote teacher CPD, including low-tech and no-tech solutions. This includes mobile-enabled CPD, through which we are currently reaching 15,000 English and Maths teachers in Rwanda, a blended learning platform, and Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs). We also have experience supporting remote communities of practice– for example through our Schools Partnership Programme –  and providing accelerated learning programmes that can support pupil reintegration.

We have also developed specific guidance on teacher training for remote delivery, which you can download here, as well as six key recommendations for effective remote PD.
