National Academy for Educational Leadership (NAEL), Wales

01 June 2018

Education Development Trust was delighted to see the launch of Wales' National Academy for Educational Leadership (NAEL) having worked alongside the Welsh Government and shadow board on establishing the institution since December 2016.

'It has been fantastic to be part of Kirsty Williams' bold and ambitious change agenda,' observes Astrid Fieldsend, project manager at Education Development Trust. 'The Academy sits independently of government and works collaboratively across the system to secure, nurture and inspire leaders now and in the future. It will play a key role in embedding the culture and principles of the self-improving system which is something that we are particularly passionate about and committed to at Education Development Trust.'

The promise of a more integrated approach to curriculum and workforce development is embodied in the new establishment which is already building bridges and creating partnerships between stakeholder groups across the system. A team of 12 Academy Associates have been selected through a highly competitive process to work as a team to co-define, develop and model the concept of schools-based system leadership in the Welsh context and to contribute to the endorsement process for the first series of leadership development opportunities provided by third party suppliers.

'We will continue to support the pilot Academy Associate Programme until December 2018,' concludes Astrid, 'and we are delighted to have played a role in supporting school leaders in Wales. Dymunwn bob lwc a llwyddiant gorau i bawb yn y dyfodol!'
