London CLC leading by example

17 February 2017

London Connected Learning Centre (London CLC) is blazing an international trail by sharing its pioneering ways of working with Dutch and Danish delegations.

'Like-minded practitioners from around the world descend on London for a week every January for Bett, the annual education technology show, and many have shown interest in our work,' explains Sarah Horrocks, director at London CLC. 'Conference delegates – and particularly from northern European countries – often want to tag on visits to schools and learning centres that are involved in using innovative technologies within their practice. It started a couple of years ago with a group wanting to find out more and this year, we have welcomed five different groups including headteachers and leading educators from the Netherlands and Denmark.'

Sharing best practice

The delegations were given the opportunity to observe London CLC as they support primary schools in teaching the computing curriculum effectively as well as in implementing technology across the entire curriculum. The enthusiastic visiting educationalists were also able to take part in some of the bespoke workshops that London CLC provides to primary schools – such as computer programming with Scratch – and join short lectures about the range of work London CLC does with primary schools in London.

'We are really excited about the growing popularity of the initiative,' continues Sarah. 'It is important to us to share our skills and experiences with international practitioners wherever we can; learning from others is fundamental to us. The visiting heads and leaders came to see how IT can be applied in different settings and contexts and, as specialists, we were able to show our visitors something a little different. We had great feedback from the trip and we will happily be welcoming more visits next year.'
