Education leadership during Covid-19 and beyond: a co-hosted webinar with the Education Commission

We were delighted to partner with the Education Commission to host a virtual event, 'Education Leadership during COVID-19 and beyond'.

The evidence of the impact of leadership on learning is significant – and this has been especially clear during the Covid-19 pandemic, as leaders have adapted and innovated alongside teachers to best ensure education continuity for children and young people. Yet leadership has been given comparatively little attention, and there has been too little investment in the identification and selection of leaders based on the key competences they need.

The webinar therefore brought together leaders, experts and policymakers from across the globe to discuss the importance and key priorities of education leaders in the context of the Covid-19 crisis and school reopening.

The rich conversation featured contributions from Tony McAleavy (Research Director at Education Development Trust), Liesbet Steer (Director, Education Commission), Commissioner Teopista Birungi Mayanja (Chairperson of Trustees Board, Uganda National Teachers Union) and Dr Asmaa Al-Fadala (Director of Research and Content Development, WISE), as well as insights from Cheryl Ann Fernando (Director, Global School Leaders, Malaysia), Fernando Giminez Zapiola (Academic Director, Varkey Foundation, Argentina), and Amy Bellinger (who is leading the Education Workforce Initiative for the Education Commission).

A detailed commentary highlighting the key outcomes and conclusions of the discussion will be published shortly, but in the meantime, you can watch the recording of the event here.
