EdDevTrust’s independent schools re-open to more pupils

After several months of almost exclusively remote learning, our independent schools in the UK – Oakfield Preparatory School and St Andrew’s School – re-opened to more pupils on Monday 1st June. Our schools have remained open to the children of key workers throughout the period of Covid-19 school closures, but were able to open their doors to more pupils on Monday, in line with government guidelines.

Valerie Dunsford, Interim Head of UK Independent Schools at Education Development Trust, explained:

“After a lot of hard work by the staff, children in nursery, reception, Year 1 and Year 6 were given a very warm welcome back. Of course, our schools currently look and feel quite different, with social distancing measures in force throughout, but our pupils all took this in their stride. And while the schools look different on the inside, the return of the happy buzz created by children learning hasn’t changed, and it’s a joy to hear once again."

“The schools are now, in effect, catering for four ‘learning groups’ – the children who have returned for face to face in-school learning, the continuation of home learning for those children who remain at home, the children of key workers of any year group who have never stopped coming to school, and the children who are not yet permitted to return, who still require access to a full online curriculum. Accommodating all of these groups has required – and will still require – an immense amount of planning by the staff and I am very grateful for their hard work.”
