CLC launches new IBM-supported blended learning programme

We are delighted to announce the launch of BlendEd, a programme of free professional development and resources to support teachers delivering a blend of distance learning and face-to-face teaching, managed by Education Development Trust’s Connected Learning Centre (CLC).

The Covid-19 pandemic has reduced children’s access to education in many parts of the world and has demonstrated like never before the importance of digital technologies for learning. Throughout the crisis, CLC has provided expert support for schools, teachers, pupils and parents – in the UK and elsewhere – as they have navigated remote and blended learning. As school closures continue in many parts of the world, and as the potential long-term benefits of blended learning have become more apparent, there is a clear need among educators for further guidance which goes beyond emergency responses and digital upskilling to consider strategic pedagogy.

Building on its expertise in digital continuing professional development (CPD) for teachers, CLC is launching BlendEd to meet this need. BlendEd is supported by the IBM UK Charitable Trust and offers a full programme of free professional development and resources for teachers to support blended learning pedagogies – that is, a mix of traditional in-person teaching and remote learning activities (often from home) using digital technologies.

This  innovative project has been designed by teachers for teachers, to help educators and school leaders design effective teaching and learning that makes the most of digital technologies – in classroom and from home, live and self-paced, in person and online. The team has also ensured that all resources, videos and online courses are bite-sized, to enable teachers to develop their skills amid the existing significant demands on their time. The programme has a strong focus on teacher voice and the site features interviews with teachers from across the UK, with special input from Mark Martin, also known as the Urban Teacher.

The programme offers a huge variety of curated, high-quality resources – from videos and online courses to guidance documents – making the site a one-stop shop for relevant content on blended learning. The site will also soon launch free, live CPD sessions and short online courses to help teachers further develop their knowledge and skills.

The site is currently available for teachers across the UK with a European focus also due to be added shortly, allowing best practice to be disseminated even more widely.
